HATCH REVEALS FULL FOOD AND DRINK LINE UP FOR ‘PHASE TWO’ EXPANSION

18 June 2019 by Neil Sowerby

HATCH has revealed the full food and drink line-up for Phase Two of their expansion. The award-winning food, drink and retail destination on Oxford Road is set to become a multipurpose, independent creative village of food, drink, retail, entertainment, roof terraces, creative workspace, social and event spaces after its expansion on Monday, June 17.

Ten new foodie brands are joining the Hatch community as the destination trebles in size, making up a total of 15 independent food and drink businesses serving up the city’s biggest array of casual quality food and drink.

Sprawling beneath the Mancunian Way on Oxford Road, a mix of giant double-decker shipping container ‘mini restaurants’, kiosk style units, bars, pop ups, a live music stage and a double decker bus already in residence are set to create an extraordinary new destination.

As ever, Hatch will provide opportunities for the most ‘boutique’ of independent food and drink businesses to take up residence in one of the venue’s trademark shipping containers. The new food and drink brands will each be settling at Hatch for differing durations, meaning that visitors will experience an ever-changing array of street food. This is the relaunch line-up…

Number 8 – A “Summer Garden” Cocktail Bar One of the key new ‘anchor’ additions to the Hatch neighbourhood, as Jimmy Garcia of London’s famed ‘Jimmy’s Pop Ups’ brings his first venture outside London. A two-storey shipping container will be transformed into a contemporary cocktail bar complete with open air roof terrace. The menu will be centred around eight eclectic cocktails, crafted using locally produced spirits and fresh botanicals, some of which will be grown and picked on site.

The Kitchen Hatch’s new family run, ‘Thessaloniki style’ restaurant takes inspiration from the culinary capital of Greece. Chef Ody Chatzitzikas trained in his home city before before moving to Amsterdam and then to Westhoughton where he and fashion stylist fiancee Nicki Gillon run a restaurant serving dishes such as rabbit tacos, loukamades (traditional Greek doughnuts) and lamb souvlaki. The whole menu they are bringing to Hatch is inspired by a city where young chefs push the boundaries of traditional Greek food using the amazing local produce.

Oke Poké After success in the NQ the city’s specialist purveyors of traditional Hawaiian street food are bringing their tropical take on fast food to Oxford Road.  Poké (poh-kay) is a salad bowl alternative combining diced raw fish, vegetables and other mix-ins and toppings, with hints of Asian flavours. The Hatch kiosk will serve their pokés in biodegradable containers, using sustainable fish and free range chicken.

Fukuu A new Pan Asian food brand for Manchester, using key ingredients sourced from Japan with fresh meat, vegetables and fish locally sourced from quality suppliers. Expect  classics such as chicken katsu curry served with fries alongside owner Anna’s own inventions including Japanese scotch eggs as well as Katsu Burger on Brioche Buns.

Ice Alchemists Inviting you to break free from the shackles of cones and cornets and grab an ice cream roll at their new Ice Cream and Dessert House. Handcrafted ‘live’ on ice pans in less than two minutes, a delicate ‘roll’ is created, and served in a tub with a choice of sauce and topping. It’s all made using quality Jersey milk-based ice cream and served with 100 pr cent biodegradable tubs and spoons.

Beer Box This is the second outlet for the Newcastle-based brewers of Black Storm. Alongside their own beers you’ll find an ample selection from the most innovative craft brewers in the UK and around the world.

Choc Serving up a variety of chocolate bars in bespoke wrappings designed by local artists, alongside a small selection of chocolate truffles, chocolate coated nuts, dates and hot chocolate. The artisan chocolate shop is a joint venture between hospitality entrepreneur Michael Currie and local creative agency Holdens.

Herbivorous Peripatetic vegan street food specialists find a pop-up home for their popular signature dish hoisin ‘duck’ wrap along with triple cooked chips loaded with pulled BBQ jackfruit, chipotle mayo and spring onions. Thethe menu will change regularly.

Mezze Father/daughter team Ali and Charlotte share their passion for Cyprian food in a bold celebration of this cuisine where Turkish meets Greek, halloumi meets peynir, the pitta kebab meets the gyros and everyone eats copious amounts of hummus.

Hot Chick Hatch’s new fried chicken mini restaurant is coming soon. More details to follow.

vin-yard wine bar + shop Offering an eclectic mix of wines by the glass or bottle, Anna Turton’s venture will serve affordable alternatives to the usual mass-produced vino. The ever-changing menu will include vegan, organic, natural and biodynamic wines to drink in or take away.

Hanoi 75 A 1999 double-decker bus has been converted into a Vietnamese kitchen serving up a creative menu from its capital city fused with other influences from South East Asia and all centred around signature baguette bahn mi.

These new traders will be joining Hatch’s existing food and drink stalwarts Electrik, Takk. Ol Nano Brewery & Bar, Get Chucked and T’Arricrii.
